Vikram Solar Expands Solar Manufacturing Capacity in India

## New Manufacturing Facility Creates Jobs and Boosts Local Economy Vikram Solar has marked a significant milestone in its expansion plans with the inauguration of a new 6 GW solar PV module manufacturing plant in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, India. The facility, which was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, is expected to create employment opportunities for over 800 skilled professionals in the region. Located on a nearly greenfield campus, the 6 GW manufacturing facility is a key addition to Vikram Solar's existing manufacturing capacity. The company's total solar PV module manufacturing capacity has increased to 15.5 GW per year following the commissioning of the new production line. This expansion is part of Vikram Solar's broader plans to deepen domestic value addition, strengthen supply-chain resilience, and create sustained industrial and employment opportunities in Tamil Nadu. ## Integrated Solar Manufacturing Ecosystem Takes Shape The Gangaikondan campus is not only a manufacturing facility but also a planned hub for the entire solar PV value chain. In the coming years, the site is expected to expand beyond module manufacturing to include solar cell, wafer, and ingot manufacturing. This integrated approach will bring key stages of the solar PV value chain together at a single location, making it a self-sufficient clean energy ecosystem. Vikram Solar's chairman and managing director, Gyanesh Chaudhary, emphasized the company's commitment to building a more self-reliant clean energy value chain in India. He stated that Tamil Nadu offers a strong industrial foundation, skilled talent, and a progressive environment for manufacturing-led growth. The company plans to establish 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by fiscal year 2027, increasing this to 12 GW by fiscal year 2028. A 9 GW wafer and ingot facility is also planned at the site, further solidifying Vikram Solar's position as a leading player in the Indian solar manufacturing sector.
